Coal River Valley Flexi Wine Tour

From AUD $600.00
  • Duration: 8 Hours (approx.)
  • Location: Hobart, Tasmania
  • Product code: P9BH99

Why our wine tour?  If you have done a little research you may have observed that there are two main types of tours operating in the Coal River Valley.  Tour operators in large buses that are cheaper per person but tend stick to fixed itineraries and avoid the smaller but often the more interesting vineyards, and the smaller operators that offer flexible but more expensive, private tours. We're a happy medium, small enough (1-11) to be flexible and visit small wineries but large enough to offer competitive rates.

Nestled just fifteen minutes from Hobart, the Coal River Valley is one of Tasmania’s most celebrated wine and food regions. This tour is designed for lovers of fine wine, whisky, cheese, and gourmet produce—crafted at a pace that you control.

From the award-winning Sullivans Cove Distillery, twice crowned the world’s best single malt whisky, to boutique vineyards producing exceptional cool-climate Pinot Noir and sparkling wines, the valley offers a sensory journey unlike any other.

Along the way, you’ll enjoy tastings at cellar doors such as:

- Coal Valley Wines – elegant cool-climate varietals

- Frogmore Creek Wines – fine dining and sweeping vineyard views

- Craigow Estate – one of the valley’s pioneering vineyards

- Coal River Farm – handmade chocolates, cheeses, and fresh produce

- Nocton Estate – boutique wines with character

- Pressing Matters – renowned for Riesling and Pinot Noir

- Every Man and His Dog – a quirky, intimate cellar door

- Puddleduck Vineyard – family-run, relaxed tastings

- Pooley Wines – heritage-listed estate with acclaimed wines

Food lovers will delight in the historic township of Richmond, where lunch options range from a bakery famed for its award-winning vanilla slices and scallop pies to refined dining at nearby Frogmore Creek Restaurant.

For those with broader tastes, the tour can also include:

- Vin and Larder Richmond – gourmet provisions and wine

- Barilla Bay Oyster Farm – fresh Tasmanian oysters

- Wicked Cheese – award-winning artisan cheesemakers

And that’s just the beginning—there are countless boutique producers waiting to be discovered. Whether you’re seeking a leisurely day of tastings, a deep dive into Tasmania’s cool-climate winemaking, or a gourmet adventure pairing wine, whisky, cheese, and chocolate, the Coal River Valley delivers.

This is more than a wine tour—it’s a journey through Tasmania’s history, flavours, and landscapes, all within easy reach of Hobart.
